League Lines: Chapter Hosts Outdoor Skills Youth Event

Indiana Chapter Hosts Outdoor Skills Youth EventIndiana > The Alexandria Chapter hosted a group from the Madison County 4-H Club for a day of fishing and outdoor and survival skills. Chapter member Ted Jones, a 4-H Club leader, and his wife Ruth (both pictured below) organized the event.

Over the course of the day, youth learned about different fish and their habitats, the importance of clean water, and which baits and fishing tackle to use when fishing. Outdoor and survival skills included how to make a fire, what plants are edible (see our Insider Info article on page 15 for more on the importance of that), and survival pack demonstrations.

The beauty of hosting the event at the Alexandria Chapter is that the youth “are also learning that this is what is done at the Izaak Walton League,” says chapter secretary and treasurer Pam Simpson. “We share the passion for protecting the great outdoors.”
