The final hurdle in a long-overdue Farm Bill was overcome today with passage of the Conference Committee Report in the U.S. Senate. The Izaak Walton League of America commends Congress on passage of the 2014 Farm Bill, which includes conservation compliance – the top priority for the League.

The Farm Bill passed its biggest hurdle yet thanks to bipartisan support for both farmers and America’s natural resources.

The Izaak Walton League of America commends the Farm Bill Conference Committee for including critical conservation measures in the Farm Bill, including a “conservation compliance” provision. The legislation will both support farmers and safeguard America’s natural resources. We urge all members of Congress to approve this Farm Bill.

In a report released yesterday, the Government Accountability Office (GAO) found that more than 40 years after Congress approved the Clean Water Act, the majority of our nation’s waters continue to be impaired. The main cause is non-point source pollution – runoff from farms, roadways, and backyards across the country. The Izaak Walton League empowers citizens to respond to this growing threat by monitoring and restoring water quality in their communities.
