The League is urging the Corps of Engineers to select Missouri River recovery actions that work WITH the river while also reducing flood risk, improving water quality, and increasing recreational opportunities.
The League introduced itself to thousands of people at the 14th annual Missouri River Outdoor Expo and the 10th annual Iowa Outdoor Expo in Des Moines.
At the Central South Dakota Water Festival, League staff presented information on Missouri River cleanups and why keeping the river clean is so important.
Heavy rains fell in southeastern South Dakota and northwestern Iowa in late September, forcing the Army Corps of Engineers to temporarily reduce releases from the Fort Randall and Gavins Point Dams.
