Due to the massive size and complexity of the Missouri River Recovery Management Plan Draft Environmental Impact Statement (MRRMP-DEIS), the League joined about 15 other groups and organizations to formally request an extension to the public comment period. In a January 11th letter to Major General Scott Spellmon of the Corps’ Northwest Division, the League cited our strong interest in river recovery efforts. We support efforts that will provide for self-sustaining populations of native fish and wildlife, improve water quality, and reduce flood risk. We also stated that for us and others to adequately review and formulate substantive comments on the DEIS, we believe extending the public comment period is in the public interest.
In response to the League and other groups' request for additional time, the Corps has extended the public comment period on the DEIS to April 22, 2017.
The Missouri River Recovery Implementation Committee (MRRIC) – made up of stakeholders including the League, tribes, states, and federal agencies also finalized a request for an extension to the DEIS comment period. MRRIC discussed the MRRMP-DEIS at their meeting in Kansas City January 31-February 2.
