Anglers and conservation organizations, including the Izaak Walton League, agreed on a list of priorities to improve or increase year-round angling access on Lake Oahe and Lake Sharpe – impoundments on the Missouri River in South Dakota. This working group, formed by South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks (SDGFP) earlier this year, discussed ways to expand or create additional access sites on the two popular reservoirs. The League asked for increased and enhanced shore fishing opportunities, especially those that will benefit young and beginning anglers, and improvements to many existing access sites on both reservoirs.
The group’s recommendations and suggested improvements – which range from road improvement projects to new boat ramps and improved shore fishing access sites – now go to the SDGFP administration for review. Following that review, recommendations will then go to the SDGFP Commission for possible approval and future implementation when funding is available.
