The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers released its 2017-2018 Draft Annual Operating Plan (AOP) for the Missouri River Mainstem Reservoir System. The AOP is not a forecast of runoff for the coming year; rather, it outlines operating scenarios for the system depending on the actual amount of runoff the system will get next year.
The Corps will hold a series of public meetings to explain and take comments/questions on their draft plan from people throughout the basin. The public meetings will include a presentation on operations for the remainder of this year and the Corps’ plans for regulating the reservoir system in 2018. There will be two public meetings in the tri-state region, including:
Tuesday, Oct. 17 – Nebraska City, NE
Start time: 4 p.m. (CDT)
Lewis and Clark Interpretive Center
100 Valmont Drive
Thursday, Oct. 19 – Pierre, SD
Start time: 10 a.m. (CDT)
Ramkota Hotel, Lake Room
920 W Sioux Avenue
The Draft AOP is available on the Corps website. The League will submit comments urging the Corps to take management actions that ensure sustainable populations of fish and wildlife and abundant recreational opportunities. The Corps will accept comments on the draft AOP until November 17. The final AOP will be released by the end of the year. If you have questions or want additional information on the Draft AOP, contact Paul Lepisto at email@example.com.
