Invasive Species Education Event Reaches Hundreds of Boaters

For the 11th year, League staff coordinated the Missouri River Invasive Species Awareness Event, held above and below Gavins Point Dam on the Nebraska-South Dakota border. The event educates people about how to avoid spreading invasive species from one water body to another. So far this year, over 800 boaters and anglers from eight states have heard the key message: clean, drain, and dry your boat every time you come off the water.

The League partnered with the National Park Service; Army Corps of Engineers; SD Game, Fish and Parks; NE Game and Parks Commission; and the Friends of the Missouri National Recreational River on the event. Funding for the League’s work was provided through a grant from the Gilchrist Foundation.
