More than 100 kids took advantage of an opportunity to get out on Lake Sharpe during the 6th Annual South Dakota Kids Fishing Event in Pierre. Young anglers enjoyed three hours and learned basic techniques from experienced anglers. This was the first time for many of the youth had been in a boat on the Missouri River.
The League and many other state and local groups organize and coordinate this event. In addition to getting out on the water, kids have a chance to win rods, reels, tackle, and other prizes to help keep them fishing. Youth also enjoyed other outdoor activities and learned about South Dakota’s natural resources. The goal of the event is to get kids fishing and hopefully develop a lifelong passion for angling.
