The Friends of the Missouri National Recreational River invited members and nonmembers to an annual event in June that included a cookout and the opportunity to paddle the Missouri River or hike on the newly developed Frost Trail along the river. The event attracted a great crowd of people interested in enjoying and helping conserve the river.
The Izaak Walton League helped start the Friends group two years ago and we continue to be actively involved in the group’s activities. The goal of the group is to promote and enhance the Missouri National Recreational River – a national park that includes two reaches of the Missouri River along the Nebraska-South Dakota border. The park is scenic, historic, and provides recreational opportunities for a growing number of paddlers from across the county each year.
