About National Hunting and Fishing Day
National Hunting and Fishing Day is an annual event that brings recognition to the value of hunting and fishing and educates the public about the role of these activities in conservation. This grassroots campaign promotes the traditions of hunting and angling and the many conservation benefits they provide for all Americans.
National Hunting and Fishing Day events provide opportunities for people across the country to learn more about outdoor skills and conservation, frequently through hands-on activities related to hunting, shooting, fishing, and archery. This year, some Izaak Walton League chapters will present informative, educational exhibits for their communities, while others will host events introducing youth and families to hunting, fishing, and other outdoor activities. These events help Americans understand the tremendous contributions that hunters and anglers make to our economy and fish and wildlife management through hunting and fishing license sales and excise taxes on firearms, archery gear, ammunition, and boating and fishing supplies.
Congress established National Hunting and Fishing Day to recognize hunters and anglers for their leadership in fish and wildlife conservation. Since 1971, the fourth Saturday in September has been set aside to celebrate and share the rich traditions of hunting and fishing.
The Izaak Walton League of America is continuing our longtime support for National Hunting and Fishing Day by returning as a national sponsor for 2019. Learn more at www.nhfday.org.
