Izaak Walton League of America

Your Gateway to Conservation and Outdoor Recreation

Welcome to the Izaak Walton League website! We are excited to be part of the Monster Energy NASCAR Cub Series Playoffs.

So what exactly is the Izaak Walton League?

Sportsmen founded the Izaak Walton League in 1922 to fight water pollution and protect our nation’s woods and wildlife.
The League’s founders rallied around the cause of conservation not only to protect natural resources but because the outdoor sports they loved – fishing, hunting, canoeing, and camping – were in jeopardy due to industrial pollution, deforestation, and over-hunting. They named the organization after Izaak Walton, the 17th-century conservationist who wrote The Compleat Angler.

Today, the sportsmen and women of the Izaak Walton League are still fighting to protect natural resources, wildlife, and the outdoor traditions they love.

The League is deeply rooted in communities nationwide. Our 230 local chapters provide a gateway to the outdoors. Each year, thousands of kids learn to fish or shoot a .22 rifle at League chapters. Tens of thousands of adults enjoy target shooting, archery, boating, fishing, or a quiet day outside with their families at chapter facilities. League members are also taking the lead on conservation locally. From stream and roadside cleanups to habitat restoration projects, our members are making a difference in their communities.

The League’s impact extends from small towns to the nation’s capital. We advocate for common-sense policies that will protect the water we drink, conserve habitat for fish and wildlife, and ensure Americans have places to hunt, fish, and enjoy other outdoor recreation – and we invite you to join us in these efforts!

  • Find a local chapter: Local chapters offer incredible opportunities to get involved with conservation and enjoy outdoor recreation close to home.
  • Make a donation: Your donation – of any amount – will help the League protect natural resources and support citizen conservationists in communities nationwide.
  • Join the League as a national member: If there is not a chapter near where you live, you can still support the League and get involved by joining as a national member.
