The South Dakota legislature passed emergency legislation opening recreational access to more than 20 small lakes.
Rapidly developing drought conditions – described as a flash drought – now exist in large portions of the upper Missouri River basin. North and South Dakota declared statewide emergencies.
Working with local, state, and federal partners, the League is coordinating the Missouri River/Lake Sharpe Clean Up in the Pierre-Fort Pierre area.
More than 100 kids took advantage of an opportunity to get out on Lake Sharpe during the 6th Annual South Dakota Kids Fishing Event in Pierre.
For the 9th consecutive year, the League led efforts to raise awareness of the threat posed by aquatic invasive species in the Missouri River.
The Friends of the Missouri National Recreational River invited members and nonmembers to an annual event in June that included a cookout and the opportunity to paddle the Missouri River or hike on the newly developed Frost Trail along the river.
