Your help is needed at a series of education and outreach events in September. The League will be involved in four big events:
Missouri River Outdoor Expo: Ponca State Park, Nebraska
The League will have a booth at this popular expo September 16-17. The Missouri River Outdoor Expo is the largest free outdoor expo in the Midwest and attracts between 40,000 to 50,000 people each year. The League is hosting a booth to talk with attendees about League programs – including the Clean Water Challenge – and preventing the spread of invasive species in the Missouri River. We’ll also help kids and adults build bird feeders out of recycled plastic bottles, educating them about both the importance of recycling and providing habitat for wildlife.
Iowa Outdoor Expo: Des Moines, Iowa
The Iowa Outdoor Expo, hosted by the Des Moines Chapter September 23-24, will attract thousands of attendees from across the region. At a League booth, members will hand out information on League programs, including the Clean Water Challenge, and help kids and adults build bird feeders.
Madison Science Expo: Madison, Nebraska
The Madison Science Expo will be held September 28. This event, which attracts about 600 elementary school students each year, provides the League with an opportunity to talk to kids about water quality and how they can help keep our waters clean by picking up litter so it doesn’t pollute our streams, rivers, and lakes.
Riverfication Event: Sioux City, Iowa
More than 1,400 6th-grade students from Iowa and Nebraska schools will attend the annual Riverfication event on September 29. League members will teach students about our Creak Freaks and Save Our Streams programs and the importance of clean water.
Volunteers are needed at all four of these events. If you can help staff a League booth during all or part of any of these events, please e-mail Paul Lepisto at email@example.com.
