Monongalia County Chapter

The Monongalia County Chapter of Izaak Walton League was for charter in July 23, 1947 by Joe Messinger, Russ Singleton, Paul Layman, Bill Craze, Dan Cupp, O.P. Westfall, and Charles Cunningham.

In 1951, the League purchased property from James Yoke. In 1952, they started to build a pond. In September 1953, the chapter started funds for the clubhouse. By April 1954, enough funds were raised to start construction with the building usable by Oct. 1954. In 2003, we did an add on to the chapter house making it handicap friendly.

The Monongalia County IWLA mission is to believe in reasonable and responsible conservation of the lands and resources. Our interest is in hunting, fishing, and outdoor recreation.

Some of our programs are WV Adopt-a-Highway U.S. Route 19 (from I-79 in Westover to Westover Bridge/ Morgantown approx. 2 miles) and Aarons Creek Rd. (from Kingwood Pike to lower Aarons Creek Rd. by Frolic Lane) 3 times/year, members and guest fishing (catch and release), working with and hosting neighborhood watch meetings, sponsoring youth to WV Conservation camp, volunteering for a week to do Salvation Army Bell ringing, and having a local Halloween party for area youth, member with family Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners.

We meet on the 3rd Tuesday every month except in July, and January and February if the weather is bad.

We are located off of Lower Aarons Creek Rd. at 114 Frolic Lane, Morgantown, WV.
