Paddle and Fish on Homer Lake in MN: Roadless Recreation Week
Please
join the Izaak Walton League of America and
friends to celebrate our
National Forest Roadless Areas as part
of the national Roadless Recreation Week.
We’ll plan to paddle, fish, and explore Homer
Lake next to the Boundary Waters Canoe Area
Wilderness (BWCAW), 18 miles north of Lutsen
and just south of Brule Lake on Forest Road 326
on the afternoon of Saturday, August 14th.
Roadless areas represent only about
one-third of our total National Forest System.
Continued protection under the Roadless Area
Conservation Rule is critical for protecting
air and water quality, providing habitat for
fish and wildlife, and for continued enjoyment
of outdoor recreation in natural areas by
future generations.
Bring your own
canoes, kayaks, personal flotation devices
(PFDs), fishing gear, etc., to help us enjoy
recreating in a Roadless Area on Superior
National Forest. Brief welcome at 1:00 p.m. at
the public landing on Homer just off Forest
Road 326. RSVPs not required but
appreciated.
Contact Kevin or Gwen at
651-649-1446
or email
gsteel@iwla.org to RSVP or
for questions.
Directions (from the south):
Follow Hwy 61 north to the town of Tofte,
Minnesota. Take the Sawbill Trail north to
Forest Service Road 170 (approximately 16
miles). Turn right (east) onto 170, and take
this approximately 11 miles until you reach
Forest Service Road 326; turn left (north).
Continue down 326 for 4 miles until you see a
sign directing you to the Homer Lake boat
access and parking lot on your
left.
Help us celebrate our National
Forest Roadless Areas!
