Restoring America’s Wildlife Refuges

Restoring America’s Wildlife Refuges

National Wildlife Refuges are the only network of public lands dedicated to safeguarding fish, wildlife, and their habitat. This unique system of lands and waters offers incredible opportunities to hunt, fish, watch wildlife, or simply take a walk in the woods. However, many refuges face serious challenges caused by years of stagnant or declining budgets.

The League has joined other members of the Cooperative Alliance for Refuge Enhancement (CARE) in issuing a new report, “Restoring America’s Wildlife Refuges: Maintaining Momentum to Solve the Refuge System Funding Crisis,” (3MG PDF) highlighting these challenges and the many benefits the Refuge System provides. The report also calls on Congress to continue to increase investment in refuges and to reject the president’s proposal to cut the system’s budget.

Take Action to Oppose Refuge Budget Cuts

If you are concerned about cuts in funding to operate and maintain National Wildlife Refuges, visit the League’s Advocacy Center now and urge your U.S. Representative to oppose the proposed cuts. Your e-mail or letter can make a difference.
