Tiny Ikes (T’Ikes) Program

Does outdoor play make kids smarter? We know that outdoor play improves kids' physical health. All that fresh air and exercise – what's not to like? The truth is, there actually may be more to like. Outdoor play is increasingly linked scientifically to stronger mental muscle. Read more in this article from the San Jose Mercury News.

Encourage your children to love the outdoors and they’ll love it for life – and lead a healthier lifestyle. Join the Izaak Walton League for a program celebrating the wonders of nature.

This program has been designed specially for children ages 2-5. Children must be accompanied by an adult for each program – it’s an experience you’ll treasure together.

September 10, 2014 (Wednesday): Art and Nature
Let your little Picasso explore the natural world through art. We will explore colors on our nature exploration and use nature as our inspiration to create something vibrant.

September 24 (Wednesday) AND September 27, 2014 (Saturday): Fall Festival
Fall has arrived! Come celebrate the season while we explore the changes and happenings in nature. Make your own "leaf man" and send him soaring into the air with our parachute game (a T'Ike favorite!).

October 7, 2014 (Tuesday): Wild Hide and Seek
Learn about the many ways animals can hide in the wild and see if you have what it takes to stay hidden in nature in our "wild" version of hide and seek.

October 29, 2014 (Wednesday): Annual Halloween Spooktacular
Wear your costume and bring a flashlight for our (non-scary) night exploration to learn about the things that go bump in the night. It will be a hoot to discover animals that wake up when it is time for us to go to bed.

November 13, 2014 (Thursday): Getting Ready for Winter
Learn how animals prepare for the coming cold weather and make a treat to share with the animals and help keep their bellies full.

All classes 10:30-11:30am except the Halloween Spooktacular, which will take place 5:30-7:00pm. Classes are $8 for members and $10 for non-members. Sign up for all 4 classes and get a discounted rate of $32.

Download a registration form.

Classes are held at the Izaak Walton League of America National Conservation Center, 707 Conservation Drive, Gaithersburg, MD  20878. • "There sure is a lot of nature out here!"
  • "Nature is awesome!"
  • "Yea, we get to go outside and explore!"
  • "It's Nature Lady….we love you!"
  • "Being outside is cool!"
