Resolutions Passed at the 2015 National Convention
Izaak Walton League of America

Boundary Waters School Trust Lands
Therefore, be it resolved that the Izaak Walton League of America, assembled in convention in Pierre, South Dakota, July 17, 2015, supports the federal buyout of all Minnesota School Trust Lands within the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness.

Be it further resolved that the League opposes the proposed exchange of approximately 39,000 acres of Superior National Forest land outside the Wilderness.

Therefore, be it resolved that the Izaak Walton League of America, assembled in convention in Pierre, South Dakota, July 17, 2015, will work with our conservation partners to urge both houses of the federal legislature to permit land managers to use Migratory Bird Hunting and Conservation Stamp monies to acquire and protect our dwindling wetlands through whatever means they see as most fiscally appropriate and that protects the sportsman’s contribution to conservation through the long-term integrity of these expenditures.

National Water Trails System
Therefore, be it resolved that the Izaak Walton League of America, assembled in convention in Pierre, South Dakota, July 17, 2015, supports the National Water Trails System as established by the National Park Service. National Water Trails must meet the following criteria:

  1. The trail and its access points must be open to public use and be designed, constructed, and maintained according to best management practices, in keeping with the anticipated use.
  2. The trail is in compliance with applicable land-use plans and environmental laws.
  3. The trail designation must be supported by the local community, including private and public owners of lands on which the access points exist.
  4. Water trail users are provided with opportunities to learn about the value of water resources, cultural heritage, and outdoor ethics.
  5. The trail provides opportunities for communities to develop and implement strategies that enhance and restore the health of local waterways and surrounding lands.
  6. The public is provided with accessible and understandable water trail information.
  7. A water trail plan describes a vision and desired future condition for the trail.

Land And Water Conservation Fund Reauthorization Resolution
Therefore, be it resolved that the Izaak Walton League of America, assembled in convention in Pierre, South Dakota, July 17, 2015, urges Congress to re-authorize the Land and Water Conservation Fund.

Further be it resolved that the League urges Congress to appropriate annually the $900 million authorized in 1965, and to amend the LWCF to include an appropriate adjustment for inflation in the years ahead.

Nuclear Research Resolution
Therefore, be it resolved that the Izaak Walton League of America, assembled in convention in Pierre, South Dakota, July 17, 2015, supports:

  1. The continued research of nuclear energy. The League supports research into Generation IV reactors using uranium or thorium fuel.
  2. Continued research into fast neutron reactors and subcritical reactors as a means of using existing nuclear waste for energy production and as a means to convert long half-life waste into shorter lived radioisotopes.
